The following is a service/donation challenge to all clubs in District 22B from the Ridgely Lions and Lion Dave Davis;
My fellow Lions, Lionesses and Leos in District 22B, I have a service/fundraising event proposal for your club. This service/fundraiser only requires a $100-dollar investment by your club. Each year, usually in April the Ronald McDonald House Charities Maryland (RMHC-MD) sponsors a 5K fun run and walk called the Red Shoe Shuffle (RSS). You may have heard of it, (for more info go to https://rmhcmaryland.org/red-shoe-shuffle/ or https://runsignup.com/Race/MD/Baltimore/RedShoeShuffle).
The RSS helps support the operation of the RMHC-MD house in Baltimore, MD. The RMH provides support to kids and their families with lodging and meals, while they are seeking medical treatment in the Baltimore Metro region.
Historically the Ridgely Lions Club holds a fundraiser for the RMHC-MD in the form of a 5K Fun Run and Walk called the Strawberry Chase held annually at our Lions Club’s Strawberry Festival in May. We, the Ridgely Lions and our mascot “Rion” the Lion participate in the RSS where we promote our event and “Rion” meets and greets RSS participants, patients, their families, and spectators. In 2024 the District 22B Lions generously donated $2650.00 dollars in support of the RSS and we were recognized as an RSS Red Boot sponsor.
On April 27, 2025 the Ronald McDonald House Charities will sponsor their 14th Annual Red Shoe Shuffle. So, I am once again proposing that the Lions, Lionesses and Leo Clubs in District 22B support the 2025 Annual RMHC-MD Red Shoe Shuffle with a sponsorship goal of $5,000 dollars. This may seem like a lot, but if you divide that goal by 48 Lions Clubs at $100/club = $4,800 + nine (9) Leo Clubs at $100/club = $900, then we have the potential to exceed our goal with a total of $5,700 dollars if all the clubs in 22B participate. So, what do you say Lions can we hear you ROAR!!
So, what do we, the District 22B Lions get for our $100 donation? Lions, Lionesses and Leos supporting and networking with a great cause and a world class charity. The Lions Club International (LCI)/22B logo on t-shirts worn by over 3000 participants and volunteers. LCI linked to the RMHC-MD website and Facebook pages, our logo on the RSS literature and registrations and a LION’S face-to-face connection with the patients, patient’s families, participants, and volunteers.
Lions can participate as volunteers, spectators, or participants. We can form our own team and walk or run in the RSS wearing our Lions apparel and costumes. We can fly our banners and/or a LCI flag at the RMH. By sponsoring this event/fundraiser it is a win-win for the RMHCMD, Lions Clubs International and the Lions of District 22B
What do you say Lions can we all do this together and support the Ronald McDonald House Charities Maryland by being a sponsor for the 2025 Red Shoe Shuffle? Please forward your checks made payable to the RMHC-MD by April 27, 2025 to the Ronald McDonald House – Maryland, 1 Asquith Street, Baltimore, MD 21202. Attention: Debbie Hood.
